Welsh Cyntell - A Two Day Workshop July 27-28

265.00

The Cyntell is a traditional multi functional Welsh basket made by farmers during the winter months and used around the farm to carry things such as animal feed, potatoes, fruit and babies.

This basket is the ‘shopper’ version of the Cyntell, a beautiful frame basket made using the same techniques as the larger round Cyntell basket. You will learn the basic principles of frame basket making, making the frame and weaving across the basket as well as splitting and shaving large rods of willow to form ribs. You will also learn how to make willow skeins to wrap the integral handle.

These skills have been handed down through generations and weaving this basket provides a strong connection to Welsh agricultural and basketmaking heritage. Included in the course will be a set of instructions that were written by the late D J Davies, the son of a Cyntell making farmer who was passionate about keeping the knowledge of weaving this particular basket alive.

*This class is best for people who have had some willow weaving experience.
